Russian Golden Eagles team 20th anniversary at Torzhok. 04/27/2012
Based at the Russian Army's Flight Training Centre in Torzhok, the Golden Eagles helicopter demonstration team mark their 20th anniversary today, on April 27th, 2012.
This represents unexpected news as the Golden Eagles were believed as possibly disbanded since they have not appeared in last MAKS Moscow International Airshows at Zhukovskii at least for more than 6 years. The anniversary takes place at Russian Helicopters Company plant at Torzhok in Tver region. Russian Helicopters JSC is a leading global designer and manufacturer of helicopters for the Federation of Russia forces.
The Golden Eagles were long renowned for performing stunt formations in their four Mil Mi-24 combat helicopters. According to Russian Helicopters JSC, it was decided that the team would fly latest Mil Mi-28N Night Hunters and all weather day-night Kamov Ka-52 Alligator helicopters, but there is no further confirmation of this conversion as now. Mil Mi-28N was adopted as the Russian Armed Forces main attack equipment by a presidential decree issued on October 15th 2009.
To mark the anniversary latest multirole Ansat-U help is also demonstrated alongside the Mil Mi-26, heaviest cargo helicopter in the world, and the world long servicing Mi-8 machine.
