Cold War jets scheduled to the Royal International Air Tattoo 2010. 12/21/2009

Though we still hope the Cold War western iconic Avro Vulcan XH-558 bomber will fly a third season in UK airshows to revive History, the eastern Europe jets that were once tasked to intercept the Vulcan - should the real thing have happened -, will be back in England for airshow display flying in 2010.

The Romanian Air Force is to send two MiG-21 ‘Lancers’ to the Royal International Air Tattoo 2010 : one for static display and the other one will fly in the show. It also plans to send their new support aircraft – the C-27 J Spartan – to the airshow on July 17th and 18th : www.airtattoo.com

Air Tattoo organisers welcomed the news and as said it reflects the excellent relationships they have built with the Romanian Air Force since 2001. Then, Air Tattoo co-founders Tim Prince and Paul Bowen helped the Romanians stage a huge airshow at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Force Base near the Black Sea.
As said by Air Tattoo Chief Executive Tim Prince, “displays in the UK by MiG aircraft are always a great treat not only because they come over so rarely but also because of their illustrious history. I think most British aircraft enthusiasts will consider that Christmas has come early! ”.
Tim also explained how these vintage MiG-21s coming back to the airshow reflect the long established experience at building a big military airshow : “The Air Tattoo’s success is built on a unique spirit of friendship and professionalism that we share with air forces around the world. In some cases, foreign pilots who displayed with us in the 1970s have since risen through the ranks to now occupy senior military positions. Over the years, we’ve also been keen to share our experience of staging airshows with other countries and in doing so, have established genuine friendships" .
